Beating the Dow and Beating the Dow with Bonds

In his best-selling investment book, Beating the Dow (HarperCollins, 1991), Michael O'Higgins outlined and popularized a strategy whereby non-professionals could outperform most money managers using the 30 components of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. This strategy came to be widely known as “the Dogs of the Dow,” and has spawned a multi-billion dollar industry within the investment world. Mr. O'Higgins is ubiquitously mentioned on news and investment websites as the inventor of the well-known strategy.

His follow-up, Beating the Dow with Bonds (HarperCollins, 1999), predicted the impending crash in technology stocks, and outlined a very successful asset allocation strategy for alternating among T-bonds, T-bills, and stocks to achieve outstanding risk-adjusted returns in both rising and declining markets.
